"What is Soldier Come Dancing! all about?
The Soldier Come Dancing! competition is organised by SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families’ Association) Forces Help at Catterick to raise funds to enable us to continue our welfare work on the Garrison.
What part does the public play in the competition?
Our serving men and women have given up their precious spare time to create some wonderfully amusing and entertaining videos which you can watch for free. You'll also be able to cast your free vote for your favourite video, and be able to
give them a star rating.
So, how do we raise money from all this? Well, that's up to you, the visitor to this site.
If you've enjoyed watching these videos, and have picked your favourite - show your appreciation by clicking on the JustGiving link beside it. This takes you to the personal page for each team. You can then make a donation for them and leave them a message of support.
Celebrity Judges and Supporters
We are inviting a number of celebrities to take part in Soldier Come Dancing! by
becoming part of our celebrity judging panel. The celebrity judges will be there to guide you - pointing out which videos they like best, and giving their comments on performances!
Forces Supporters
We are pleased so say that our support within the Forces is second to none. Everyone from Generals to Brigadiers, Captains and Corporals are cheering us on.
Who are SSAFA Forces Help?
The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families’ Association (SSAFA) Forces Help is the leading national charity helping those who serve in our Armed Forces, those who used to serve, and the families of both.
How does the Soldier Come Dancing! competition work?
The Soldier Come Dancing! competition will be run over a period of time so that you will have plenty of time to get your teams together, make up your routines, practice and then finally shoot your video entries...

All competition videos and completed entry forms must be returned to the organisers by Monday, 5 October 2009.
The Soldier Come Dancing! competition You Tube Channel will open to the public on 7 October 2009.
On the same date the video voting pages on the Soldier Come Dancing! website and the individual video donations pages on Just Giving will also open.
There will then be 2 rounds:
The first round runs from 7 October 2009 to 7 November 2009. All entered videos will be available for viewing, to collect votes and to generate donations in
support.
At the end of the first round the videos will be cut down to the category finalists.
The second round runs from 7 November 2009 to 7 December 2009 when viewings, voting and donations can be made for the finalists.
At the end of the competition the videos with the most votes, the most viewings, and which have generated the most in donations of support will be identified.
These will be the 3 Competition Champions and will be awarded the Soldier Come Dancing! trophies and prizes.
The winners will be announced on the 10th of December 2009 on the
event website."
Soldier Come Dancing! has received a large amount of press coverage in The Sun, Women's Own, Sky News,, even appearing on Saturday 7th November 09 show of Strictly Come Dancing!
For our event, we have to make sure that we are constantly on top of it and that there is "hook" to it, in order to create a buzz amongst the press and keep them interested.
